Meet our honoree Bob Schoen

For the 50th anniversary of Greater Harleysville and North Penn Senior Services, we are pleased to honor Bob Schoen as our 2025 Pillar of the Community. Bob has been on the GHNPSS Board of Directors for close to 35 yrs, serving as the President for about 20 of those years, and as the Treasurer for several more. Throughout his years as a valued leader in our organization, Bob has always aproached these roles with humility and a sense of lightheartedness, traits that he carries throughout all areas of his life.

It was during his time as Board President that The Pillar of the Community Fundraiser first originated, as a way to raise funds for the Centers, while recognizing and championing individuals who have gone above and beyond in their dedication to making positive contributions within our local community.

Bob is a lifelong resident of the area, graduating from North Penn High School and then spending the bulk of his professional life working and living in Souderton and Harleysville. He spent over 30 years as a partner in the accounting firm Detweiler Hershey & Associates, P.C., which is where he first met Louise Conway, the original Executive Director of the organization (then called The Harleysville SAAC). As Bob was looking for a way to feel more connected to his community, Louise invited him to join the Board of Directors. Then, when only 7 months later the position of President opened up, Bob rose to the task. The rest, as they say, is history.

Staying engaged locally has always been an area of utmost importance for Bob. In addition to his extraordinary service to the GHNPSS Board of Directors, he also served for several years as the President of the Board of Directors of The Indian Valley Library, as well as The Indian Valley Chamber of Commerce. Bob was also actively involved for many years as an Indian Valley Kiwanis Club Member. Feeling a deeply rooted sense of community connection is what he has enjoyed the most during his time on the GHNPSS board of directors.

Following his retirement in 2014, Bob has continued to remain engaged in a variety of local businesses, including work as the CFO of a software company, a Real Estate Investor- owning several commercial buildings in the area over the years, and an Investor and original CFO for a local manufacturing company.

Impressive as his professional resume is, it has never been his career that defines Bob and what he is passionate about. Bob warmly shares credit for all of his accolades with his wife of 43 years Debs, and the family they built together. Their two children Danielle and Jason, as well as grandkids Dylan and Katie, are a constant source of joy in Bob and Deb’s life. Bob has always been one to adventurously explore the limits of the fun that life has to offer. Today he enjoys riding his motorcycle, listening to music, being outdoors, and working on creative and functional woodworking projects of all kinds.
